Craft By Proper Closes, Ending a Longtime Gathering Spot in Sugar House

Salt Lake City, UT · July 9, 2026. Another familiar name has disappeared from Salt Lake City’s nightlife scene.

Craft By Proper officially closed its Sugar House location on June 20, ending the run of a venue that became known for bringing people together through trivia nights, karaoke, community events, local DJs, game nights, and one of the city’s most active neighborhood bar communities.

Unlike many bars that centered their identity around live entertainment or late-night crowds, Craft built its reputation by creating a space where people could stop in throughout the week, meet new people, and become regulars. Over the years, it hosted a wide variety of events that helped make it a gathering place for locals looking for more than just a drink.

The business shared news of the closure through social media, thanking customers, staff, and longtime supporters while inviting the community back for one final night before closing its doors.

The closure applies only to the Craft location in Sugar House. Other businesses operated by Proper Brewing continue to serve customers at their respective locations.

As Salt Lake City’s bar and nightlife scene continues to evolve, longtime venues inevitably come and go. For many who spent evenings at Craft, however, the venue will be remembered less for what it served and more for the community it helped create.
